This paper examines how mergers and acquisitions (M&A) by Japanese firms affect the performance of local companies in Thailand. Japan is one of Thailand’s three largest acquirer countries, along with the United States and China, making this case an important one to study. The results show that M&A activity by Japanese firms leads to changes in the average values of several financial ratios and indicators, including Return on quity. Overall, the statistical findings suggest qualitative changes in the financial items and ratios examined, following cross-border acquisitions by Japanese firms.

石戸光教授と当プロジェクトの国際共同研究者であるマヒドン大学のベンジャラックス・サクナシンガ助教授らとの共著の査読付き英語論文が追加で出版されました。日本企業による合併・買収（M&A）がタイの現地企業の業績にどのような影響を与えるかを検証し、日本企業によるM&A活動は、自己資本利益率を含むいくつかの財務指標や比率の平均値に変化をもたらすことが示されました。全体として、統計的な分析結果は、日本企業による国境を越えた買収後に検討された財務項目や比率に質的変化が生じていることを示唆しています。

This study explores the finance-specific factors (using a new dataset) that help domestic companies operating in Thailand receive foreign direct investment (FDI) related to mergers and acquisitions (M&A). In line with our previous joint work, the role of intangible assets is found to be the key to realizing a fair distribution of M&A type FDI in Thailand.

石戸光教授と当プロジェクトの国際共同研究者であるマヒドン大学のベンジャラックス・サクナシンガ助教授による共著の査読付き英語論文が追加で出版されました。 タイで活動する国内企業がM&A（企業の合併・買収）に関連する海外直接投資（FDI）を受け入れるのに役立つ財務特有の要因を探る継続研究の内容（新たなデータの活用）になっています。タイにおいてM&AタイプのFDIが公正な形で分配されるために、無形資産の役割が不可欠な点をこれまでの研究と同様に実証しています。
