ノースウェスタン大学の中東政治・社会運動研究者ウェンディ・パールマン氏の東京滞在に合わせ、上記のタイトルにてワークショップを開催いたします。同氏は主著 Violence, Nonviolence, and the Palestinian National Movement (Cambridge University Press, 2011)でパレスチナ運動史おける暴力と非暴力の諸相について、アイルランドや南アフリカの運動との比較を踏まえ、団結と分断の力学関係から実証的に考察しております。本ワークショップでは、邦訳書『シリア 震える橋を渡って: 人々は語る』（岩波書店, 2019）に先立つ彼女の研究成果を踏まえつつ、近年のパレスチナやイラク、シリアの抗議運動における暴力と非暴力の諸問題について著者自身と議論を深めたいと思います。

Wendy Perlman is a Professor of Political Science at Northwestern University. She is the author of We Crossed a Bridge and It Trembled: Voices from Syria, of which Japanese translation was published in 2019. In her Violence, Nonviolence, and the Palestinian National Movement (Cambridge University Press, 2011), she empirically examined various aspects of violence and nonviolence in the history of the Palestinian movement in terms of the dynamics of cohesion and fragmentation, drawing comparisons with the movements in Ireland and South Africa. In this workshop, we will discuss with the author various aspects of violence and nonviolence in the recent Palestinian, Iraqi, and Syrian protest movements.
